What Are You Waiting For?
A friendly bit of tough love to get you started on what you're most wanting to bring into reality.
What Are You Waiting For?
Words by Leah Melby Clinton
The thing I seem to be talking about, more and more, is the idea that if you want something, you need to act. This push to galvanize yourself—to take action, to make moves—has been creeping out from my head and through my lips a lot lately.
It comes up in different situations and with different people, but the message is always the same. It’s a reminder (to myself as much as whomever I’m talking to): You know what you need to do to get the thing you’re after. So, do it.
It’s the level-two version of something I wrote about here recently. Frequently (most of the time, really), we all seem to know the right answer. We ask for opinions or cast about for direction or someone to prove or disprove whatever’s sitting in our head, yet it’s mostly a waste of time.
The right decision is usually already sitting there.
That same thought—that there’s a cellular, bone-deep awareness within us—applies here, too. Apologies, but you’re fooling yourself (or making excuses) if you’re pretending to not see the path from the present to the desired outcome. Whether it’s a switch professionally or something you want to build or a reality you want to usher into the here and now, you’re to smart to wonder a version of, but how do I make it happen?
I don’t mean for this to feel like tough love…or maybe I do?
I ended last week having a phone call with an old industry friend. We were chatting about her career and how she wanted to build. And I told her, with the candor you’re allowed when someone knows how you function and that you’re friend, not foe, that she knew what she needed to do to get there. And that if she didn’t want to do it, well, that’s more than fine.
But if she wanted to get there? She couldn’t have clearer steps laid out.
It’s a simple way of moving forward that I’m trying to remember and live more often. It’s the “cut out what doesn’t matter” and “only focus on things that are ‘hell yeah’” ideas in a to-do list format.
We tend to know what’s right and how to get to the destination. And it’s not to say that the route will be easy or fast, but it’s future progression that we can map out.
If you want to, and you know how, then get busy.
Spring in the form of shoes and my smartest buys, as of late.
I’ve been reading too much about the benefits of lifting heavier weights to ignore it. So, I clicked purchase on these and started working them into my little at-home gym routine. I love how easy they are to use and how strong I feel.
My daughter got this book reader for her birthday and it’s become her favorite thing. And, as a fan of the Toniebox, I have to say this is similar, but even better for older kids. It’s easier to tote around and travel with and you can carry the cards around in a convenient little zip case—reminds me of the one I used in high school for CDs (remember those?!)
I went out on a limb and tried a new peptide serum and came running back to this one. I can’t find one I love as much—makes skin glow almost instantly, moisturizes, and has the perfect weightless, not sticky, kind of texture. I’m hooked!
I already own these in a lighter color way, but wanted the darker wash. I love the idea of wearing these with a chambray button-down and sandals as we ease our way into spring.
…Speaking of spring, these are at the top of my shopping list. I love the way a mesh flat transforms an otherwise-basic outfit and I have big plans to wear these with white jeans and an off-white tee. xHannah
When in doubt, wear the good stuff.
It’s something I’ve written enough about to be annoying, probably. So many of the women I know in real life and in our In Kind community love style (and have incredible closets) yet seem to feel a bit paralyzed to…well, wear it?
